Simone Amber, co-founder of Fab Lab Connect, reported from the Women In Innovation Forum in New York City. She shares one key point from the Forum, “Let your curiosity lead you,” presented by speaker Beth Comstock, American business executive and former vice chair of General Electric.
The annual event, known as “W.IN” for short, estimates 700 attendees – 60 CEOs, 100 start-up founders, 100 graduate talents – from 12 countries. Participants are asked to “Pledge to innovation.”
Beth Comstock’s main message is “Make room for discovery.” She suggests “Be with people who are ‘weird’” and “Go into your fear.” She also recommends to “See patterns.”
The Women in Innovation Forum this year was held on May 21, at the Parsons School of Design, a university dedicated to unleashing creativity and reimagining the future.
The WIN manifesto is “Diversity Powers Innovation” – and in 2018, diversity at the top remains a challenge. They stress pushing for more equity in leadership roles in the coming years. A few of their focus points: “The future is diverse. The future is inclusive. Diversity is a force that empowers, not polarizes.”
Simone Amber supports innovators to make their dreams come true – by Building, Accelerating & Connecting Fab Labs around the world. The company focuses on integrating education programs that include digital design, digital fabrication and robotics.
